Choosing the Right OB Doctor

Choosing a doctor when you’re expecting is one of the most important and exciting steps in your pregnancy. After all, this is who will be handing you your little bundle of joy! But there is a lot more to it than just that. The doctor you choose will be on the receiving end of every question you have – big or small – for the next 8ish months. These will be the voices who reassure, guide and prepare you to become a mother.

Here are a few helpful points to consider when searching for the right fit for you.

  1. What types of insurance do they accept? You can call the office and find out before you even make an appointment.
  2. Have an idea of what you want. Discuss your custom birth plan with your provider so your experience meets your expectations.
  3. Do your homework ahead of time. Make sure you’re comfortable. Some women prefer a female provider while others are fine with male doctors as well. The choice is yours – do some research and find out a little about each doc. Check out docs’ website bios to help guide you to a great fit!
  4. Are their hours of operation and location good? At some point you will be calling after regular business hours.
